Entry Requirements Of Universities In The United Kingdom (Bachelor’s Degree)
Entry requirements of universities in the United Kingdom might differ based on the university and even the department. In general, the universities will assess the competence of students in two fields: academic success and English language level. Most universities in the United Kingdom accept Turkish high school diplomas while admitting a student. As for academic success, students who achieve 80 cumulative grade point average out of 100 in high school might be considered eligible to a direct entry at a university in the United Kingdom. While Turkish high school diplomas are generally qualified for admission to the first year of a three-year-long bachelor’s degree in the United Kingdom, each student is evaluated individually. Furthermore, an adequate level of English language proficiency is required to study at a university in the United Kingdom and maintain social life at a satisfactory level. Students are required by the universities in the United Kingdom to receive minimum 6.0 – 6.5 points (upper-intermediate) from the IELTS academic test. Admissions teams at a university in the United Kingdom review reference letters written by students’ teachers, and personal statements within the UCAS form while evaluating their applications.
ATTENTION: In contrast to popular belief, most United Kingdom universities offer direct first-year entry to students who have not received an IB (International Baccalaureate), AP (Advanced Placement), or SAT-level education.

In case United Kingdom universities do not offer direct first-year admissions to students, Foundation Programme, a one-year-long academic preparation course, is recommended. These programmes are provided within universities or colleges cooperating with the university. The programme’s course content comprises the topics that students will focus on during their bachelor’s degree studies apart from improving their academic English proficiency.
