Pathway courses are important parts of the UK higher education for international students who cannot achieve the standart entry requirement of the courses that they want to study. These pathway courses are called Foundation, International Year One, Pre-master and Pre-sessional.
Foundation Programme
Foundation Programme is a preparatory course oriented by some universities in the United Kingdom toward the students with an average level of English skills or whose high-school cumulative grade point average is insufficient for direct entry. The students attend courses in the campus with other students and they accommodate in the same dormitory together.
Foundation Year should not be deemed as a preparatory year attended in Turkey. Instead of predominantly addressing grammar subjects in English courses, the students advance their academic writing, article reading skills by concentrating on current events. Average classroom capacity is 10-15 people for the students to derive maximum benefit from classes, which allows teachers to spare time for each student.
International Year One Course
This undergraduate course will facilitate your study abroad experience and combine academic preparation with the 1st year of the undergraduate degree. This means you can progress directly to 2nd year of your bachelor’s degree in a variety of subjects, saving both time and money.
Students who want to study in the UK but do not fully meet the university entrance requirements can take the International Year One course. Upon successful completion of this pathway course, students reach the level required to begin 2nd year of the Bachelor’s degree.
Pre-Master Programme
Pre-master is a programme offered by universities in the United Kingdom for students with an intermediate level of English proficiency whose bachelor’s cumulative grade point average is inadequate to be accepted to a master’s programme. Pre-master students attend classes with other students on the university’s campus and stay at the same lodging. Pre-master programme is not equivalent to an English preparation year.
This programme provides students with valuable knowledge and experience while adapting to the British educational system. The programme will prepare the students while equipping them with the qualifications of referencing methods and creating content for academic writing studies, which are essential throughout their master’s studies. Those who complete this programme proceed to their master’s education without any interruptions.
