Master’s Degrees in the United Kingdom ordinarily last for one year; however, programmes such as medicine, dentistry, MFA or MSW are subjected to a longer period of study, which can extend up to 21 months. The first education semester begins either at the end of September or in the first week of October every academic year. Certain universities have a spring semester start for their various academic programmes, which usually start in January or February, and last for 12 months. 

Application Documents For Master’s Degree At The Universities Of The United Kingdom 

Master’s applications to UK Universities are made directly through schools. Most University applications are free, although some require payment to submit. There is no limit on the number of master applications. Master’s degree applications in institutions based in the UK usually open in September and continue until June. Personal Statement -> This is a letter in which students explain why they would like to study in the preferred institution. 

Transcript -> A table of grades that students get during the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades

Academic Reference -> A reference letter that one of the students’ teachers provide 

CV -> A brief résumé reflecting the internships or extracurricular activities that students have participated in.

IELTS / TOEFL -> English proficiency certificate (not required during the application process)

Entry Requirements For Master’s Degree At Universities Of The United Kingdom 

The academic admission requirement of the United Kingdom Universities for Turkish students is ordinarily minimum GPA of 2.50; the students with a 2.50 GPA and above will have a chance to pursue their master’s degree in the United Kingdom. As the required GPA by each programme and university differs, please check the entry requirements of every institution for more precise information. Students with a GPA of 3.0 and above have a better chance of being admitted by Russel Group Universities, which are ranked in the world’s top 100 universities lists. 

Students with a GPA below 2.50 can pursue their master’s degree at universities in the United Kingdom, on the condition that they provide strong academic references and prepare effective Personal Statement and CV documents for their applications. Besides, receiving a bachelor’s degree with a high Cumulative Grade Point Average from a university offering a distinguished programme in English, or graduating from a research university with a high research impact would be highly effective in receiving offers from universities with remarkable rankings in the United Kingdom. 

Students whose GPA scores are lower than the university admission requirements can primarily attend one-year Pre-Master programmes at the universities they aim to pursue their studies. After successful completion of this programme, they can proceed with their master’s degree a year later. Pre-Masters programme in the United Kingdom is provided by the universities, or the research groups that the universities have agreements with. 

In addition to the academic requirements, a certain level of English is required for the students to study their second-cycle degree and to maintain their social life in the best way possible. The higher education institutions in the United Kingdom usually require students to receive an IELTS Academic score of 6.5 or 7.0 (varies by programme) for admission.
