A Level:
High school education in the United Kingdom is called “A Level” and this qualification is recognised by global institutions. A Level is a two year programme that consists of 10 months in total and divides into three main semesters as September-December, January-March, and April-June each year. Students aiming to attend high school in the United Kingdom can either attend private or public high schools.
GCSE:
After successfully completing the first two years of their high school education, students are awarded GCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) diploma; and when they complete their four years long education, they are awarded an A Level Diploma. GCSE lasts for five semesters in total, throughout this period, there are 9 elective course options from 40 different occupation-based subjects, and the students are expected to complete five elective modules before proceeding with their A Level education to receive the A Level Diploma.
While Maths, Sciences and English are the compulsory modules of the GCSE programme, there are various elective courses based on Language, Humanities, Social Sciences, Creative, Technical and Professional studies. At the end of the first two years of studies, the students take the central GCSE examination, and receive their grades. A Levels following the GCSE education, is the most preferred system for receiving undergraduate education in the United Kingdom. Students must take at least 3 modules at the end of their second year. After the central examination that the students take at the end of the first year of A Level, the students receive their AS Level (Advanced Subsidiary) degree. After successful completion of the central examination at the end of the second year, the students are awarded the A Level diploma. In accordance with the final grade of the A Level studies, they are entitled to attend different programmes at global universities.
